Apple MacOS Zero Day Update 5-4-2021

Tuesday, May 4, 2021:  Second Apple MacOS Zero Day Exploit Forced Update Tonight

Outage Summary:

We have sent a command to download the latest Apple macOS Update 11.3.1 for College Mac computers running Big Sur.  You can manually run it from Apple Software Update, reboot is required to complete update and it takes about 25 minutes. If it has not run before Tuesday at 10:00 PM, the next time your computer connects to the internet, the system will try to force the update and reboot. Any computers that did not run last week’s macOS 11.3 update may require multiple update and reboots cycles.

Why are we forcing this update? macOS 11.3.1 fixes a pair of zero-day vulnerabilities in WebKit that are actively being exploited. These vulnerabilities could allow maliciously crafted web content to lead to arbitrary code execution. The first vulnerability was caused by a memory corruption issue, while the second was rooted in an integer overflow.  https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT212335
