Wednesday, April 28th, 2021:  Apple MacOS Zero Day Exploit Forced Update Wednesday

Apple MacOS Zero Day Exploit Forced Update Wednesday

Outage Summary:

We have sent a command to download the latest Apple MacOS Update for College Mac computers.  You can manually run it from Apple Software Update, reboot is required and it takes about an hour. If it has not run before Wednesday at 10:00 PM, the next time your computer connects to the internet, the system will force the update and reboot.

Why are we forcing this update? This patch fixes a critical vulnerability that was actively being exploited. The bug — a logic flaw — reportedly allows a bad actor to bypass Apple's File and Application Quarantine and Notarization requirements. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201222

Lab Computers will be forced Tuesday Night (4/27/21) after 10 PM.

Site:  All campuses

Systems:  All College Mac Devices

Use/Impact:   System will install patches and reboot (approx. 1 hour)

Outage Window:  Available now, Lab computers Mandatory 4/27 10PM, Staff/Faculty computers 4/28 10 PM

***If there are any issues please contact the Help Desk, Ext. 5555***
