Monthly Mac updates

Mac Updates

 

Summary: 

      

This is a reminder that the monthly software updates for SLCC Mac computers are available for installation on all staff/faculty/lab computers.  These updates can take up to 60 minutes to install and require one or two reboots.  The college does push updates to both on-site and off-site computers.

 

Updates we are enforcing this month

 

Cisco Jabber 12.7, staff/faculty computers only, takes 5 minutes no reboot

macOS Mojave 10.14.6 all compatible computers not running 10.14.6, take 30-60 minutes reboot required

Microsoft Office 365 License Converter to staff/faculty computers only, take less than 5 mins no reboot.

You will have to sign in with your username@slcc.edu to activate Office 365 license.

 

There are two preferred ways to install these updates:

1.     You can initiate these updates at your convenience prior to the patch deadline on Thursday night (09-19-2019).  In Applications, you open SLCC Self Service run any listed updates.

2.     Simply leave your computer turned on overnight and it will update itself on Thursday night with no user intervention required. The computer MUST BE ON for this to occur.

 

If you do not install the updates prior, your computer will install the updates the next time it is turned on anywhere with a network connection.  A warning message that your computer is installing updates will appear and it will subsequently reboot, if needed.

 

If you have not installed the Jamf client follow these instructions.

 

Inventory:

Starting this year, Mac devices registered within the  Jamf system, that have reported in within 30 days of when the inventory report goes out (normally October), will automatically be marked as FOUND so you don’t have to do the physical inventory (for registered devices).
