Proofpoint URL Defense

Image of proof point logo

SLCC’s recent Proofpoint implementation includes an email scanning technology to protect our Staff and Faculty Members from targeted-attacks such as phishing. As we all know, phishing is when an email impersonates another person, site etc. in an effort to get people to give up their credentials. These messages and websites frequently include links or attachments and can look quite legitimate because they are constructed using SLCC or other company logos, have valid appearing display addresses and other contact information.

Proofpoint protection utilizes an URL defense strategy that protects you and SLCC by blocking access to websites that are judged to be harmful. Part of this entails the scanning and inspection of all links and attachments of every message delivered to your inbox. Please note that as a part of this scanning process, all links are rewritten with a Proofpoint URL. Therefore, when you hover over links delivered via SLCC email, you will be presented with a Proofpoint URL that begins with https://urldefense.proofpoint.com and followed by an a string used to redirect to the correct site when evaluated as safe. While in instances where links are determined to be harmful, a notification like the following will appear in your browser:
