Jabra Speaker (710) Connection Instructions (Apple iOS)

The Jabra 710 is a speaker used to enhance the audio output of a device that has a USB 2.0 port or is Bluetooth enabled; such as a smartphone, laptop or tablet.  The speaker comes with a USB 2.0 dongle and cable for connectivity and a USB cable for charging.  To determine if your device is Bluetooth enabled, look for the Bluetooth emblem on the device or the paperwork shipped with the device.

These instructions will allow you to connect the speaker to a device that is running the Apple operating system (iOS) using either Bluetooth or USB connections.

SPEAKER STAND

The speaker comes with a built-in stand shaped like a "V" which is located on the bottom of the speaker.  By pressing on the bottom of the "V", the stand will push out from the back of the speaker.  Gently pull the stand out fully until you hear a soft click (about a 45-degree angle) that locks the stand in place.  To collapse the stand, gently press the ends of the "V" until it is fully enclosed in the base of the speaker.

USB

If your device is not Bluetooth enabled, or if you want to connect using the USB connector, the included USB 2.0 dongle or the USB 2.0 cable can be used.  For iOS devices that have the USB Type C port instead of the USB 2.0 port, a USB 2.0 to USB Type C (Thunderbolt) adapter (not included) should be used.  On the bottom of the speaker will be found the USB dongle and wired cable that can be removed or unwound and connected to a USB port that supports USB 2.0 or higher.

SPEAKER POWER

To turn on the speaker, press and hold the Power button on the outer top edge of the speaker until you see the Power button light up along with indicators around the top perimeter of the speaker.  Press and holding the Power button a second time will turn the speaker off.

 SPEAKER CONNECTION

Instructions are provided for connecting through both Bluetooth and USB (wired and wireless).  Follow the appropriate instructions below for the connection type you are using.

 

BLUETOOTH CONNECTIVITY

Step One – After turning the speaker on, press the Bluetooth symbol on the outer top edge of the speaker.  This will place the speaker in discovery mode and you will hear the speaker prompt you to connect the speaker to your device.

Step Two – To access the Bluetooth menu on your Apple device, click the Apple logo and select System Preferences.

Step Three - In the System Preferences, select Bluetooth.

Step Four - In the Bluetooth window, you will see the Jabra Speak 710.  Click the Connect button to the right to connect the speaker to your device.

Step Five - Once the speaker is connected, it should be set as the default speaker and microphone.  To verify or to troubleshoot the connection, click back to the System Preference window and click on Sound.

Step Six - Click both the Output and Input and select the Jabra Speak 710 so that the speaker can be used as both a speaker and microphone.  Once these are set, you are ready to go.

USB CONNECTIVITY

Step One – After turning the speaker on, remove the USB 2.0 dongle or unwind the USB 2.0 cable from the base of the speaker.

Step Two - Firmly seat the USB dongle or cable to the USB port on your device.

Step Three - Once the speaker is connected, it should be set as the default speaker and microphone.  To verify or to troubleshoot the connection, click back to the System Preference screen and click Sound.

Step Four - Click both the Output and Input and select the Jabra Speak 710 so that the speaker can be used as both a speaker and microphone.  Once these are set, you are ready to go.

DEVICE MAINTENANCE
The Help Desk strives to ensure that all equipment is in full working order and completely charged prior to pick-up.  If, at any time, there is an issue, please contact the Help Desk at 801-957-5555 (or ext 5555) or notify them in person when the speaker is dropped off.

Speaker Battery - Ensure that the speaker is fully charged prior or use.  This will guarantee stable and consistent operation of the speaker during usage.  Only charge the speaker using an AC adapter (not included).  The speaker has up to 15 hours of talk time on a full charge and takes approximately three (3) hours to charge completely.  The speaker can be charged by either connecting the USB cable to a powered USB port on a computer that is turned on or, it the USB cable can be connected to a wall charger (not included).  A wall charger is the most reliable and preferred process.

Speaker Storage - The speaker comes with a protective travel pouch, paperwork and a cardboard container.  Unless it is being used or charging, please store and transport the speaker in these containers to ensure adequate protection.  Make sure the stand is fully stowed in the bottom of the device as well as the USB dongle and cable, if they are not being used.

PLATFORM CONNECTIVITY
The Jabra speaker is compatible with most platforms.  These include (but are not limited to) Skype for Business, Cisco WebEx, GoTo Meeting, Chromebox, and Adobe Connect.
