  1. the fraudulent practice of sending emails purporting to be from reputable companies in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers.

Another phishing email attempt was received by a large number of individuals at SLCC this morning. It is encouraging to see the number of individuals reporting the attempt, however initial investigation indicates that a few individuals did at least click on the link and visited the site in question. Anyone who did click on the link and entered their credentials should change their password immediately! Also please note that SLCC OIT will never include links or request credentials via email, but rather direct individuals to an appropriate resource. Another helpful tip: phishing emails frequently manipulate links to appear legitimate. Using a cursor to hover above the “CLICK HERE” link in the example below reveals the URL which is clearly an unknown domain.
