Emergency Notice - Apple Macintosh and the Meltdown-Spectre Vulnerability 2018-01-09

For anyone utilizing Macintosh operating systems, Apple has confirmed that while the systems and iOS devices are affected, updates to Macs (macOS 10.13.2 - High Sierra), and iPhones (iOS 11.2) and Apple TVs (tvOS 11.2) already address Meltdown. Further updates of Apple OSes will be released to limit the threat of vulnerabilities including the soon to be released update to its Safari web browser to protect against Spectre.  --Update there is now a 10.13.2 supplemental update that includes the safari update

Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome Summary:

 

Mozilla Firefox announced that Firefox version 57.0.4 for Microsoft Windows desktop features security fixes to resolve security flaws related to Meltdown-Spectre. --Update -Mozilla Firefox patch 57.04 was released today  (01-11-2018) which addresses the Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities? This is the only browser currently on MAC that has this fix and should be used whenever possible.

 

Google has announced that Google Chrome is scheduled to be updated on or about January 23rd to protect against the Meltdown-Spectre vulnerabilities. Google recommends users turn on the site isolation feature that limits the ability of a rogue JavaScript program from gaining access to sensitive data. This can be accomplished by entering chrome://flags/#enable-site-per-process in the address bar, pressing Enter and relaunching Chrome when prompted.
